On that fateful night, around 10:30 p.m., Travis Hughes was involved in a fatal car crash on FM 1301 near County Road 189 in Wharton County. He was driving a 2015 Ford F-150 pickup truck eastbound on FM 1301 when a tragic accident occurred. Travis veered into the westbound lane, resulting in a head-on collision with a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Jose Luis Garcia, 42, of El Campo. Both Travis Hughes and Jose Luis Garcia were tragically pronounced dead at the scene. The devastating crash also left passengers with severe injuries. Jacoby Lee Trevino, a 15-year-old from Boling and a passenger in Travis’s truck, was airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston for medical treatment. Another passenger, 40-year-old Maria Del Carmen Garcia of El Campo, who was in Jose Luis Garcia’s truck, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Oak Bend Medical Center in Richmond.

The Texas Department of Public Safety continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.
