After undergoing brain surgery on September 24, Quiñones has been in an induced coma for the past few days.
The Colombian sporting community is in mourning following the confirmation of the death of boxer Luis Quiones, who had been in critical condition in the hospital since a fight broadcast live on television on September 24. The athlete’s brother has confirmed this on his Facebook page, although the clinic where he was treated has not released an official report as of this writing.
Leonardo Guzmán expressed his sorrow on social media, writing, “The loss of my brother has caused our entire family enormous sadness.” He also fondly recalled the late boxer’s nickname, “head,” which he used to refer to him.
Head, as you told me, and as I told you, you left me with a tremendous emptiness, and now you are clothed in fine linen next to the heavenly father you so loved and admired you very much here on earth, now you are with him, see you soon head. Says Leonardo Quiones Guzmán, “Luis Quiones.”
The death of boxer Luis Quiones has been confirmed by the boxer’s brother.
Five days after his most crucial battle, Quiones remained in intensive care at the General Clinic in north Barranquilla. Soon, he will no longer be a part of the Colombian Boxing Federation. Since the Barranqueo’s physicians had already ruled him brain dead, he said that the boxer’s death had to have happened somewhere about midnight on Thursday.
A statement read, “We pray to God for the soul of boxer Luis Quiónes, who regrettably passed away at midnight on Thursday after being declared brain dead. The little screen lost its toughest fight. The sport is mourning.”
The Ministry of Sport responded by emphasizing the Santander native’s significance to the growth of boxing in Colombia, since he arrived in Barranquilla and immediately made an impact on the sport’s future there. Our deepest sympathies go out to the whole Quiones family.
