After receiving an advanced esophageal cancer diagnosis 10 months prior, Brian Wogernese, the founder and CEO of Cobblestone Hotels, passed away. He underwent “countless” rounds of chemotherapy, surgeries, and therapies after being diagnosed, the business said in a statement, all the while managing his staff and creating new initiatives.The Cobblestone Hotels chain was established in 2007 by Wogernese, who opened the first hotel in Clintonville, Wisconsin, in 2008. He got his start in the hotel business in 1992 as a shuttle driver for a Minneapolis hotel. From there, he worked in a variety of roles at a hotel that later in 2007 served as the core of the Cobblestone brand. He wanted his brand to be “franchisee-first” because he was aware of the challenges faced by franchisers.
