However, that move proves to strain their marriage as Dewey doesn’t adjust well to city life. During one of the pair’s more emotional arguments in 2022’s Scream, fans learn that Dewey moved back to Woodsboro after living there for two months. Gale, of course, stayed to continue her revived career.
In the present day of 2022’s Scream, Gale is as a morning anchor on Good Morning, America — proving that she has been doing very well for herself post- Scream 4. However, when she first arrives on the set of Woodsboro’s latest Ghostface murder scene, she introduces herself as “Gale Ril-,” shakes her head, and then says, “Gale Weathers.”
Dewey is now married to Gale Weathers, who is adjusting to small-town life with great difficulty. Alongside his deputy, Judy Hicks, and the rest of the Woodsboro police force, Dewey is in charge of the newest slew of dead bodies.
Dewey was the only Scream survivor not to break one of the Rules in the climax of the first film. Ross Hoss initially appeared to be the “new” Dewey in Scream 4 but by the end of the film Judy Hicks seems to fill that role.

Dewey and Gale being divorced in Scream 5 isn’t actually surprising considering how rocky their relationship was in Scream 4. After being married for years, the pair had numerous arguments and troubles all the while another woman began pursuing Dewey. Gale had retired as a reporter and was a struggling author, while Dewey was typically away as Woodsboro’s sheriff and wasn’t supportive of her new journalistic endeavors. Gale and Dewey are hardly together in the Scream 4 sequel and when they are, it’s turbulent. With how fraught their relationship had grown by Scream 4, divorce seemed to be the direction the franchise was going.
