College of the Canyons in 2007 and transferred to Fort Scott CC in 2008. He subsequently graduated from South Florida.

His time with all the colleges saw him play football for their respective teams. In 2009, he was named First-Team All-WSC and All-American at College of the Canyons and Second-Team Little All-American at Fort Scott Community College.

His 70 tackles, 10.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and one fumble recovery helped Fort Scott win the Big Eight Conference championship in 2008.

In 2009, Pro Football Weekly recognized Pierre-Paul first-team All-America, and the Big East awarded him All-Big East. He decided to forego his senior year and pursue the NFL Draft in 2010.

He appeared in thirteen games with seven starts in 2009, totaling 45 tackles, 6.5 sacks, one interception, three pass breakups, and two fumbles.
